The general index map for the series in volume IV of Innermostasia - the map is too large to photograph in one picture and achieve sufficient detail to read names. But this gives a clear view of the vast extent of his three expeditions. The index is for the maps made from expedition 3 but the routes shown in red on this and each of the maps include his routes for all three expeditions. The numbers in circles give the identification number of each map. In contrast to the map set in Serindia, this set covers the entire area, but large parts of some maps are blank. Each map includes an area of 2 degrees of longitude and 2 of lattitude. In this general view we see the multiple treks he and his surveyors made south of Khotan searching for headwaters of the rivers flowing out of the Kun-lun. It shows his routes across the Taklamakan along the Keriya and Khotan rivers. In the center it shows his multiple routes around Lou-lan. On the southeast it shows his travels south of Su-chou and Kan-chou into the Nan-shan ranges. Two the far north-east is shows his route down the Etsin-gol to reach Khara-khoto. And along the northern edge it shows his several different routes as far north as Barkul and the two routes - from An-hsi to Hami and from Mao-mei to Barkul.
