Nikoli chudotvortsi no Bersenevke -Church of
St Nicholas the Miracle Worker on Beresnevka (monuments - 142) It was built in
1656, in the ancient style of Russian brick churches on the site of the old
church of the Blessed Trinity. It is maintained that there was once here a
monastery in which Metropolitan Phillip was imprisoned. The Moscow inhabitants
flocked to this monastery. The local was named after boyar Beklemishev-Bersenya
who fell out of favor and was executed in 1525 in the reign of Vasilli
Ioanovich III on the Moscow river ice near his home.
