Church Bogoyavleniya Gospodnya v
Bogoyavleniya monastery on Nikol'ski st. (Epiphany of our Lord in the Epiphany
monastery in Kitai gorod. from page 396 of Krasovskii. The same photo is on
page 29 of Svyatini. The monastery was founded in
1296 by St Prince Daniil Aleksandrovich. At first there was a wooden church. It
is the second oldest monastery in Moscow. One of the abbots was Stefan, a
brother of St Sergius Radonezh, founder of Trinity monastery at
Sergiev.Metropolitan Aleksei was at this monastery. The first stone church was
built here in 1342 with funds of the tisyatski Protasi. The main cathedral was
build in 1693-6. There are chapels for the Tikhvin Mother of God (1869),
StPanteleimon (1873) and the birth of John the Baptist.
