Church of the Deposition of the Lord's Robe

Tserkov'' Polozheniya Rizi Gospodnyei v uspenskom sobore v Moskve na Donskoi - or Rizopolozheniya Tserkov'', "The Church of the Deposition of the Lord's Robe that is in the Uspenski Cathedral in Moscow". The church is located on Donskoi street about half way between the ring of the former Zemli gorod wall south of the city and the Donskoi Monastery. The robe of Christ was taken from Jerusalem to Greece and from there to Persia. In 1625 it was presented as a gift by Shah Abbas to Tsar Mikhail Romanov. This church is on the spot where the Persian delegation delivered the robe to the Russian representatives. One part of the robe was preserved in the Uspenski Cathedral in the Kremlin, another part in the Petropavlovski Cathedral in the fortress in St Petersburg and a third part in the family church of the Romanovs in Zemnem Dvorts. Immediately after this meeting a wooden church was built here. Then in 1705 a small church of St Catherine was here. Then in 1763 a chapel was built by Yakov Alfeev. This was paid for by a group of Moscow merchants and industrialists. In 1886-90's the architect A. S. Kaminski rebuilt it with the refectory and belltower
