Tserkov Khyazya Vladimiri chto v Starikh sadak (Church of St Prince Vladimir on StaroSadsky land) "In the Old Gardens." - Svyatini page 80. There are chapels dedicated to Sts Kiril and Iulitti, Boris and Gleb. In the 15th century this area was covered with woods. Close to the mouth of the Yauza river, a road traversed the woods to Vladimir, the present Yauza street. Higher up on the curve of the north river bank as early as the 14th. century stood the village of the boyar Vorontsov. At the end of the 15th. century, the area belonged to Ivan III, who established his estate in the spot where during the time of troubles of the middle of the century estates had been abandoned and there stood the Church of Vladimir in the Gardens. Ivan III's estate stood just a few hundred meters closer to the city. He gardened here where in the 17th. century a burough of gardeners still inhabited the area. Following the time of troubles, the church was moved into the city. Another settlement called Il'inskaya sloboda was carved out of the lands of the Savior-Andronikov Monastery. It was located at the church of Il'ya the Precursor "At the Pine Grove." This was the future church of the Saint Virgin's Presentation at the Barashakh, when the church of Il'ya on Vorontsov field was called the Annunciation. On the river shore where grain mills, surrounded by dwellings. Nearer to the mouth of the river was a pier. To the North was the road of Khomutovka which later became known as Pokrovka - the continuation of the street in the White Town. The Church of Saint Vladimir was moved when Prince Vasilii Ivanovich had the architect Aleviz Fryazin (Novy) build a new one on a hill across from the Ivanovskii Monastery founded in 1533, which is where it stands today. The church was built in the later part of the 17th century to replace a former church of 1514-16 at the summer residence of Grand Prince Vasilii III. It was burned in 1737 and in 1812. The church was damaged during the 1930-40's but has been partially restored.
