||
Center of the colonnade at side of Cathedral of our Lady of Kazan. The entire ensemble was designed by Andrei Voronikhin, a serf architect. It was commissioned by Emperor Paul I andbuilt between 1801-1811. The entire colonnade is 364 feet long. The entrance through this central section is actually at the side, not end of the cathedral because the altar is at the east end of the nave to conform to religious requirements. |
