Among the names that are still occasionally
mentioned is M. D. Bikovskii, who was trained by Giraldi and remained within
the limits of the Western school. His major work was the reconstruction of the
huge mansion that belonged to Countess S. V. Panina in Marfino, a village not
far from Moscow. He gothicized the mansion and made it almost look like a
medieval British castle. In the same style he built a large stable for Prince
Trubetskoy at their estate, Znamenskoe-Sadki, also near Moscow. Bikovskii
switched to a Renaissance style when he designed the bell-tower for the
existing church at the estate of Prince Golitsin at Nikoskoe-Uriupino. P. S.
Plavov, A. P. Briulov, I. A. Fomin and I. V. Zholtovskii also followed western
trends.
