Andrei Yur'yevich Bogoliubsky |

Andrei was capable but also very ruthless ruler. His aim again was to unify Russian lands and make Vladimir the new capital. He lead a few expeditions against Novgorod and against Mstislav Iziaslavich, Prince of Kiev. His army sacked the former center of Russian culture and many valuable manuscripts, icons et cetera perished. As the historian N.M. Karamzin, 1766-1826 said, Andrei's soldiers shamefully forgot that Kievans were also Russians. |
