D. Chichagov used the same style in
designing Moscow's new city hall, built in 1890-1892, not far from the GUM and
just across the street from the Historical Museum. The facade of the former
city hall has much in common with that of the GUM, and it looks as if Chichagov
and Pomerantserv went to the same place to find their buildings. After the
revolution the name of the square in front of the Hall was changed from
Resurrection Square to the Square of the Revolution, and the building was
turned into the Central Museum of V. I. Lenin, who had an office in it for a
while.
