Protection for the front of the neck and upper chest. A barmitsa is shown here. This one is made of linked plates. Another version was a mail net of small iron rings, the barmitsa, that protected the neck and shoulders of the warrior. It was attached beneath and to the sides of early helmets from the 10th century on.
