FEDOR TITOVICH (14th cent)

 
   
 

He was the son of Tit Mstislavich, appanage prince of Karachev. He was appanage prince of Kozel'. His sons were Tit, prince of Kozel' and Ivan Shanur, prince of Kozel'. They are all on this family chart.
Kozel'sk was one of the more ancient villages in the Vyatichi lands. When it was founded is not known. The first time it was mentioned in the chronicles was for 1146 when it entered into the composition of the Chernigov-Severski lands. In 1246 after the town was burned by the Tatars and then Mikhail Vsyevolodovich was killed at the Horde, Kozel'sk was included in the Karachevski principality and given to Mstislav Mikhailovich. Then Tit Mstislavich divided the land and gave Kozel'ski udel to his sons Ivan and Fedor. In the 14th century Kozel was taken by Lithuania. In 1408 Kozel was taken by Vasilii I Dmitriyevich and given to the Serpukhov prince Vladimir Khrabri. But in 1445 the Lithuanians again took Kozel. In 1448 Casimir gove it to his namestnik prince Vorotinski. Finally in 1494 it was taken permanently by Moscow. One of Tit Mstislavich's descendents, prince Ivan Fedorovich Gorchak was the founder of the princes Gorchakovski.
