He was the son of Igor Svyatoslavich, appanage prince of Novgorod-Severia
and a daughter of Yaroslav Vladimirovich Osmomisl,
appanage prince of Galich. He married about in 1187 with a daughter of Konchak,
Polovtsi Khan, while a prisoner as a result of the ill-fated campaign of his
father celebrated in the "Tale of the Host of Igor" (or Lay of the
Warfare waged by Igor). Their sons were Izyaslav,
prince of Kyiv and Vsyevolod, crown prince or prince
of Putivl. Vladimir appears on this family chart.
