He was born about in 1082 the fourth son of
Vladimir Vsyevolodovich Monomakh. His mother was
Githa, the daughter of Harald II of England. He was prince of Periaslavl
(1114-1132), and prince of Kyiv (1132-1139). His wife was Elina. His son was
Vasilii, prince of Kyiv. They are shown on this
family chart.
Chronology:
1103 - he participates in united Rus princely campaign against the Polovtsi at
the Samara river. The campaign is very successful, penetrating to the Don and
freeing many Christian prisoners.
1106, 1109 - more campaigns against the Polovtsi.
1113 - his father, Vladimir Monomakh becomes grand prince at Kyiv, leaving him
in charge at Periaslavl.
1125 - his brother, Mstislav Vladimirovich becomes
grand prince at Kyiv on the death of their father. Defense of Periyaslavl
against continual attack by Polovtsi.
1132 - on death of Mstislav, he becomes grand prince of Kyiv.
1136 - he is defeated by Vsyevolod II Ol'govich.
but Vsyevolod doesn't last.
1139 - Yaropolk dies and is succeeded briefly by his brother, Vyacheslav, but
Vsyevolod returns to power.
