The gigantic statue of Peter I commissioned
by Moscow mayor, Luzhkov, from his favorite sculptor, Zurab Tsereteli. It
stands on the upstream point of the island between the Moscow river and the
water diversion canal almost opposite the rebuilt Cathedral of Christ the
Savior. Peter stands on the deck of a frigate that itself is on top of a column
of water and smaller ships and flags. The whole thing is 59 meters in height.
In the background is the upper part of the famous Moscow chocolate factory.
