One of the Rostral columns located on the Strelka point. These originally were navigational beacons, light by torch light of hemp oil - they are 32 meters tall. Now they are lit by gas during festivals. The design is Roman - the prow of Carthaginian galleys protrude. The white statues personify Russian rivers - Volga, Dniper, Volkov and Neva. |
