Detail of map 30 inInnermostasia - this shows the area between Miran and Abdal. The Tibetan fort at Miran occupied Stein for weeks during which he found not only the fort but (as shown 'mounds') much earlier Buddhist stupas. Abdal was a tiny fishing village but with a building substantial for Stein to use as a storage shed.
