In the map set of Innermostasia map B is a special large sheet in which Stein's and Lal Singh's several survey routes across the Lop salt sea are shown in an effort to give the reader an overall view of this huge area. Stein clearly thought his daring efforts were highlights of his expeditions. But the map is so large that showing the entire map on one computer screen makes it so small that the detail is lost. Here we have made more detailed photos of sections of the map. Of course this defeats Stein's purpose but does enable one to see the remarkable amout of detailed descriptions he was able to record each day while attending to the rigors of a desert crossing in mid-winter over unknown and difficult terrain. - This photo shows part of the western edge of the Lop sea where the Chinese frontier fort - Lou lan was located.
