ALMA BATTLE - CRIMEAN WAR

View from road junction in village north of the Alma River, looking south. Here we are closer to the river. The redoubt is on the forward slope of the ridge between two tall trees. The center of the Russia line was on the ridge at the right edge of this photo. The Russians did not have enough troops or artillery to defend such a long position and compounded their mistake by deploying units into battalion mass formations scattered along their front.
