View from in front of location of Suzdal Regt
on Russian right. Once across the Alma, which was easily forded, the Highland
Brigade had an easy time marching across the gentle slope. However the view is
deceptive as there are hollows in which formed units can stand without being
seen until one is close to them. Conversely, the Highlanders would disappear
from Russian view as they crossed some depressions. There were masses of Russian
cavalry on the ridge at the far left horizon but they did not interveen into
the battle.
