This is from as close to the area of the Sand Bag battery as we could get now that the area is off limits in an antenna farm. But it shows the steep descent to the Tchernia river valley and the steep cliff opposite. It is easy to see how the attacking Russian troops would disappear from view suddenly as they withdrew over the military crest. Also apparent is the difficulty of the British who foolishly charged down a slope like this had in regaining their ridge.
