SEVASTOPOL - CRIMEA

Fort Constantine is the two story white fortress at the opposite side of the entrance to Sevastopol harbor. This photo is taken from the ruin of the Greek colony at Chersonese. During the Crimean War the Russians sank a line of ships across the harbor mouth. The Allies conducted one major naval operation against the harbor but failed with heavy losses. Ft Constantine is still used by the Black Sea Fleet so visitors are not allowed.
