SEVASTOPOL - CRIMEA

View from Chersonesus across Quarantine bay inlet to city. The French occupied this area as part of their siege lines. They mistakenly thought they were standing on the ruins of a Genoese city rather than the much more ancient Greek colony. The Russian defenses were anchored at this end of the line by fortifications on the opposite ridge.
