SEVASTOPOL - CRIMEA

  {short description of image}

Map on wall in Panorama Museum that shows the locations of the camps indicated by colors of national flags, French, Britishs, Turkish, Sardinian and Russian. Note that the Russians held their field army on the hills north east of the city while the Allies occupied the penninsula to the south and west. The British and French priority objective after the Battle on the Alma was to capture ports through which they could be assured of supplies. The French army here was much larger than that of the British.
