Battle of
Attock - 1813
The Battle of Attock (also known as the Battle of Chuch or the Battle of
Haidru) took place on 13 July 1813 between the Sikh Empire and the Durrani
Empire. The battle was the first significant Sikh victory over the Durranis.
Battle of Ghazni
22 July 1839
The Battle of Ghazni (or Ghuznee) took place in the city of Ghazni in central
Afghanistan on Tuesday, July 23, 1839, during the First Anglo-Afghan War.

Battle of Jamrud
30 April, 1837 The
Battle of Jamrud was fought between the Sikhs under Maharaja Ranjit Singh and
the Afghans under Emir Dost Muhammand Khan. Following the consolidation of the
Sikh Empire in Punjab, Maharaja Ranjit Singh had begun a wave of invasions on
Afghan-held territories. The Afghans had been losing their long-held
territories to Sikhs over the preceding years, and had seen their once mighty
empire shrink with the loss of the Punjab region, Multan, Kashmir, Derajat,
Hazara, Balakot, Attock, Peshawar, and Jamrud.
Battle (siege)
of Multan - 1818
The siege of Multan was a battle between a Vizier of the Durrani Empire and the
Sikh Empire that started in March 1818 and ended on 2 June 1818.
Battle of Noshera
1823
The Battle of Nowshera was fought in Nowshera in March 1823 between the forces
of Yusufzai with support from Azim Khan Barakzai, Durrani governor against the
Sikh Khalsa Army of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Azim Khan was a half-brother of Dost
Mohammad Khan, founder of the Barakzai dynasty. The battle was a decisive
victory for the Sikhs against Afghanistan and led to their occupation of the
Peshawar Valley. Following their victory, the Sikhs destroyed the Afghan royal
court and the fort of Bala Hissar, Peshawar. However, Hari Singh Nalwa soon
commenced the reconstruction of the fort.
Battle of
Peshawar 1834
The Battle of Peshawar took place on May 6, 1834, between the Sikh Empire and
the Peshawar Sardars, who was ruled by Sultan Mohammad Khan after being deposed
by his brother, Dost Mohammad Khan, from his rule in Kabul. Following the
collapse of the Durrani Empire, Afghanistan split into many different states to
where virtually every city was autonomous or independent in some shape or form,
with states like the Principality of Qandahar and the Emirate of Herat being
formed. Maharaj Ranjit Singh sent General Hari Singh Nalwa to capture Peshawar.
After brief fighting, Hari Singh Nalwa captured the city. The news of the
capture of Peshawar quickly reached Kabul. Learning of his deposed brothers
defeat. Hari Singh Nalwa was appointed as governor of the city by Maharaja
Ranjit Singh.
Battle of Shopian 1819
The Battle of Shopian took place on 3 July 1819 between an expeditionary force
from the Sikh Empire and Jabbar Khan, the governor of the Kashmir Valley
province of the Durrani Empire. It was the decisive battle during the Sikh
expedition into Kashmir in 1819.
Siege of
Herat - 1837-38
The Siege of Herat (18371838) was an attack on the Principality of Herat
by Qajar Iran during the Great Game. Herat was held by Kamran Shah and his
vizier Yar Mohammad Khan Alakozai. The Shah of Persia was Mohammed Shah Qajar.
Four Europeans were involved: Sir John McNeill and Eldred Pottinger for the
British and Count Simonich and Yan Vitkevich for the Russians. Sher Mohammad
Khan Hazara, an ally of Kamran and chieftain of the Qala-e Naw Hazaras helped
form a Sunni Confederacy of Aimaq, Turkman, and Uzbek tribes and played a
crucial role in defending Herat during the early days of the siege. The siege
ended after neither side gained a clear advantage, the British threatened to
take military action and the Russians withdrew their support.
