The Cathedral of the Assumption (Uspenski) built in 1559 by order of Ivan IV to commemorate his conquest of Kazan and Astrakhan. It was consecrated in 1588. It is the main church of the monastery. In front is the small chapel built in the 17th century over St Sergius' well. Outside the cathedral by the wall on the left is the tomb of Tsar Boris Gudonov with his wife and two children.
