BRONZE HORSEMAN

View of Falconet's "Bronze Horseman" with the Senate (supreme court) and Holy Synod in the background. This imposing building was designed by Carlo Rossi (1829-41) to match the Admiralty, opposite. Now it contains the Central State Historical Archive. The top of the arch connecting them is barely visible beneath the horse's legs. The inscription reads "To Peter I from Catherine II".
