The statue of Tsar Nicholas I on horseback is in Isaac square near both the cathedral and the Astoria hotel.The statue was designed by Montferrand, who also designed the cathedral. The statue was erected in 1859. The sculptor was Pytor Klodt. It shows the tsar in the uniform of the Kavalry Guard regiment. The pedestal has sculptures of his daughters and wife representing Faith, Wisdom, Justice and Might. |
