ST NICHOLAS CATHEDRAL

St Nicholas Cathedral - founded for sailors of the Admiralty it is the naval church named for the patron saint of sailors. The walls are covered with memorial plaques to naval heros and ships lost at sea. It is Baroque according to the design of architect Savva Chevakinski. It was built from 1753 to 1762. Inside it has the traditional Russian upper and lower churches. Both are filled with fine art including important icons.
