MARIINSKI THEATER

Mariinski Theater houses famous opera and ballet. It is located next to the Kryukov canal a block from St Nicholas Cathedral. The theater is named for Empress Maria Aleksandrovna, wife of Aleksandr II. It wasbuilt in 1860 by Albert Kavos, who designed the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow. The facade was redesigned byh Viktor Schroter in the 1880's.
