Boris was the son of Vyacheslav Yaroslavich, the youngest son if Yaroslav the Wise, and Oda Lepoldovna, countess of Shtaden. His father was prince of Smolensk who died in 1057. Boris is listed at prince of Chernigiv around 1056 but also as 'isgoi' that is prince without a recognized domain. The family is shown on this chart.
Chronology:
1077 - He goes to Chernigiv in May for 8 days and then flees to Tmutorokan after being expelled by Vladimir Monomakh. He goes to Roman Svyatoslavich, hoping for help.
1078 - He joins his cousin, Oleg Svyatoslavich, in bringing Polovtsi troops from Tmutorokan and the steppe in Oleg's war to regain Chernigiv from their uncles. At the crucial battle he boasts that they would easily defeat Izyaslav I and Vsyevolod I. But both Boris and Izyaslav die in the battle in 1078.
