He was the fifth or sixth son of
Mstislav I Vladimirovich. His mother was Mstislav's
second wife, the daughter of Dmitri Zavidich, posadnik of Novgorod. He married
the daughter of Beli the Blind Princeof Ugra (a Hungarian ban). His sons were
Rostislav, Mstislav and
Yaroslav prince of Dorogobuzh. He was prince of
Dorogobuzh and then was called to be prince of Kyiv in 1171 to rule with his
nephews (the Rostislavichi) and help with their wars against Andrei Yur'yevich
of Suzdal. He was there in 15 February but on 10 May he sucumbed to a major
illness and died. He is shown in this family chart.
