In this chart each nation or group such as
cossacks or Tatar hordes is color coded. They are cross referenced - that is on
the cossack line they will be shown fighting Poland and on the Poland line they
will be shown fighting cossacks. Each group is shown down the side and each
year appears across the top. By comparing colors one can easily determine who
was fighting whom each year. The point of these graphs is to emphasize that in
many years the conflicts were multi-sided and conducted in multiple theaters of
war. The century began with the Great Northern War - Russia participated in the
War of the Austrian Succession, the Seven Year's War and the Napoleonic Wars.
