THE PETERHOV PALACE NEAR ST. PETERSBURG

AMANDA AND ELIZABETH BYERS AND JOHN SLOAN

Here we have photos taken during our visit to Peterhof in July 2005. For full text and many more photos please visit our section of Peterhof in the main city directory. In 2005 our tour included entrance into the Catherine wing palace so we have many photos included here. But in 2003 and earlier our tours included entrance into the grand palace itself instead, so photos of that interior are in the other folder.

Monplaisir small cottage palace - one of Peter's favorite places in which he continued to live and entertain after the grand palace was built- built before the grand palace. It was designed by Johann Braustein in 1714 to Peter's ideas about Dutch architecture. It contains Peter's personal art collection and was decorated with black, gold and red lacquered panels - destroyed by Germans and now replaced with copies.
