STEPHAN BATHORY TOWER

As we approach the city driving up the road from the Polish gate at river level we come to one of the most impressive fortifications remaining. This is the Stephan Bathory tower. The original road went through the tower in the tunnel visible here. Now a passage in the city wall has been cut for the road beside the tower. This is 9 on the plan.
