KAM'YANETS - SOUTHERN SIDE

  {short description of image}

Here we are looking mostly north from the Russian suburb, accross the Smotrich, which is hidden below us. We see the stark walls of the Turkish barracks (13) on the lower right side of the photo. One tower of the Russian gate (7) appears hidden in the trees, center left. Right above it is one of the remaining defensive walls, (14) along which we will walk. At the top, center, we see the red Trinitarian Uniate church and right below it another segment of the inner defensive wall. To the left of that is the Armenian bastion (6) and city gate defenses (now including an Armenian restaurant). Here the deceptive nature of views is again apparent. The tall, blue spires of the Church of St George rise in the far distance, across the other part of the river, in the Polish suburb. (see city plan.)
