It was not possible to photograph every part of this huge painting, but this scene shows yet another aspect of the bloody battlefield. Here the Russian cavalry is engaging the Saxons. The Rayevski redoubt is encased in smoke in the distance to the right and the white church in Borodino village is just barely seen in the center distance.
