BORODINO BATTLE

The only other field works of any importance were three open, angle shaped fletches on the cemter-left side of the Russian line. (Called Bagration fleches). This shows the interior of one of them. They were taken by the French after several assaults during the morning. Note the embrasures (cuts) in the wall for cannon. The fleche is open in the rear to prevent any French troops who might capture it from using it against a counter attack.
