The Vorotinsk udel was created in the middle of the 15th century for Fedor by his father, who was under the supremacy of Lithuania. Fedor's son, Mikhail, in 1484 departed from Lithuania and went under the supremancy of Moscow. About in 1493 Mikhail began to serve Ivan III with his brothers Semyon and Dmitrii. All three became boyars at the Moscow court. In 1534 the boyar Ivan Vorotinski, son of prince Mikhail Fedorovich was exiled out of the boyar government and his udel went to three sons, Vladimir, Mikhail and Aleksandr. The boyar Vladimir Ivanovich died in 1556 without children. In 1562 Mikhail and Aleksandr together with their wives and children were exiled by Ivan IV who took to himself their holdings in the Vorotinski udel. Aleksandr was pardoned but soon died. In 1566 Mikhail was pardoned. In 1573 he was executed with Nikita Romanovich Odoyevski and the Vorotinski udel was completely liquidated. But the Vorotinski family didn't die out until 1679.
