He was the son of Roman Semyonovich, appanage prince of Novosel' and
Odoyev. He became prince of Odoyev. His sons were Ivan; Vasilii, prince of
Odoyev; Fedor, prince of Vorotin; and
Semyon, prince of Odoyev. They are all shown on
this family chart.
The town of Odoyev was mentioned in the chronicles by the second half of the
14th cnetury as part of the Chrenigiv principality. The descendent of Mikhail
Vsyevolodovich, Novosel prince Roman Semyonovich after the destruction of his
otchina by the Tatars moved with his borther, Ivan, to live at Odoyev and
became the first appanage prince there. In 1407 Odoyev was taken by the
Lithuanians and united into that government, but the ruler, Yuri Romanovich,
was allowed to stay as an appanage prince. But in the middle 15th century the
sons of Semyon Yur'yevich fled from Lithuania and sought the power of Ivan III
of Moscow. The Odoyev appange was eliminated in the 16th century and absorbed
into Muscovy.
