over the individual names to read short descriptions. All the princes
are linked with fathers and sons so that you may follow the geneology from
Rurik to Fedor Ivanovich.Igor was the youngest son of
Yaroslav Vladimirovich, prince of Kyiv, and
Ingigerda, daughter of King Olaf of Sweden. He was sent to rule at
Vladimir-in-Volynia. From this far western Rus territory he didn't cause much
trouble. But his son, David Igor'yevich, was a
first class troublemaker. Despite the family agreement that established
territories for each of the descendents of Yaroslav Vladimirovich, David
promptly conived to get his cousin, Svyatopolk
Izyaslavich, who was ruling at Kyiv, to help him wage war on the two sons of
Rostislav Vladimirovich, who held towns in
Galicia, Volodar and Vasil'ko. Eventually David was thwarted in his
ambitions and instead began a campaign into Poland, where he died in battle.
His son, Vsyevoldko Davidovich, received the
consolation prize, rule of Gorodno, (Grodno). As you can see the family died
out comparatively soon.
